This garden is conceptual, designed to be viewed rather than used. The central feature represents ‘Fire’, the turf covered, cubed plinths represent ‘Earth’ and the Betula utilis var. jaquemontii living, growing sculptures. From the main viewing point, the black timber structural frame, the sculpture and the ‘pathway’ of washed coal reinforce the theme of ‘Earth’ by representing natural content. The delicate canopies of the trees respond easily to even a gentle breeze, thus representing ‘Wind’. The mirrors, blue grasses and glass mulch give the impression that ‘Water’ flows under the Earth’s crust. The hot coloured planting integrated with smaller flame-like sculptures represent the natural occurrence of fire emerging from deep within the Earth
