After three days of voting, visitors chose St Andr

After three days of voting, visitors chose St Andrew's Sensory Adventure as People's Choice Showcase Garden at Autumn Fair! Designed by the 'Eco Warriors' at St Andrew's School, this sensory focused design invites visitors to enter using a textured bridge, smell a variety of edible plants, hop along stepping stones and enjoy the area as a multifunctional play area with a lawn to relax on also.

The garden is now being transported back to the school in North Weald where students can care for nature and enhance their wellbeing year round. Three cheers for St Andrew's!

The visitors voted, and we were thrilled to award Cara Thompson's Beautiful Border, Make It Flourish Together, the People's Choice Beautiful Border award at the Autumn Fair✨

A Gold Award winning Beautiful Border was designed as a space to immerse oneself in nature. Showcasing the flourishing plant varieties Cara and her weekly meet-up gardening group have grown from seed, it encourages visitors to take time to enjoy all that is flourishing alongside our wildlife.

"We’ll definitely be back next year to defend our title!" Winners of the @apl_news Skills 'The Professionals' Competition at the #BBCGWAutumnFair, and Platinum award winners, were JJH Landscapes from Oxfordshire, with team partner Radial Landscapes from West Sussex.

The team took on the tough creative and technical challenge to build a competition standard show garden in only 16 ½ hours. The winning team’s 21st Century Jacobean Garden is a drought-tolerant garden designed by Adam Vetere with elegant geometric features that mirror elements of Audley End’s Great Hall

"“I’m absolutely thrilled and humbled to have won" said Rachel Sporborg, the designer of the Best Beautiful Border, and recipient of a Platinum Award, at the #BBCGWAutumnFair. 🏆

Rachel's design, 'Free Thinking', was inspired by artist David Tremlett’s wall drawing, Drawing for Free Thinking, installed at Tate Britain’s Manton Stairwell.

The Border contrasts rigid hard landscaping with soft, relaxing movement in the planting and offers a vision of the garden as a way to escape and relax from the constraints of modern life. Drawing the eye in, an expansive steel arch frames the planting and a central circulating water feature designed for physical and contemplative reflection. The autumnal planting includes grasses and perennials with a Viburnum Plicatum ‘Watanabe’ as the signature shrub.

An incredible clutch of Awards were announced at the #BBCGWAutumnFair last week. Best Showcase Garden went to 'An Edible Garden Through Time' by Lucy Chamberlain with Kelly Fowler and Gemma Sturges from the English Heritage Kitchen Gardens team.
