St Andrew's Sensory Adventure Awarded Silver Merit Designed by students of St Andrew’s School Through experiences with nature, we can help children appreciate the wider world. The Eco Warriors at St Andrew’s school care deeply about our environment, and together will create our secret garden escape. A sensory adventure, the garden invites all to enter across the textured bridge, hop along the log steppingstones, to taste and smell the variety of edible plants and flowers. Surrounded by nature is a multifunctional play pit to encourage imaginative play, before relaxing in the retreat or enjoying a picnic with friends on the lawn. After the show, we’ll transport the garden to our school in North Weald, for all our children to enjoy, enhancing wellbeing and care for nature all year-round. /*! elementor - v3.19.0 - 07-02-2024 */ .elementor-widget-image{text-align:center}.elementor-widget-image a{display:inline-block}.elementor-widget-image a img[src$=".svg"]{width:48px}.elementor-widget-image img{vertical-align:middle;display:inline-block} With thanks to /*! elementor - v3.19.0 - 07-02-2024 */ .elementor-widget-divider{--divider-border-style:none;--divider-border-width:1px;--divider-color:#0c0d0e;--divider-icon-size:20px;--divider-element-spacing:10px;--divider-pattern-height:24px;--divider-pattern-size:20px;--divider-pattern-url:none;--divider-pattern-repeat:repeat-x}.elementor-widget-divider .elementor-divider{display:flex}.elementor-widget-divider .elementor-divider__text{font-size:15px;line-height:1;max-width:95%}.elementor-widget-divider .elementor-divider__element{margin:0 var(--divider-element-spacing);flex-shrink:0}.elementor-widget-divider .elementor-icon{font-size:var(--divider-icon-size)}.elementor-widget-divider .elementor-divider-separator{display:flex;margin:0;direction:ltr}.elementor-widget-divider--view-line_icon .elementor-divider-separator,.elementor-widget-divider--view-line_text .elementor-divider-separator{align-items:center}.elementor-widget-divider--view-line_icon .elementor-divider-separator:after,.elementor-widget-divider--view-line_icon .elementor-divider-separator:before,.elementor-widget-divider--view-line_text .elementor-divider-separator:after,.elementor-widget-divider--view-line_text .elementor-divider-separator:before{display:block;content:"";border-block-end:0;flex-grow:1;border-block-start:var(--divider-border-width) var(--divider-border-style) var(--divider-color)}.elementor-widget-divider--element-align-left .elementor-divider .elementor-divider-separator>.elementor-divider__svg:first-of-type{flex-grow:0;flex-shrink:100}.elementor-widget-divider--element-align-left .elementor-divider-separator:before{content:none}.elementor-widget-divider--element-align-left .elementor-divider__element{margin-left:0}.elementor-widget-divider--element-align-right .elementor-divider .elementor-divider-separator>.elementor-divider__svg:last-of-type{flex-grow:0;flex-shrink:100}.elementor-widget-divider--element-align-right .elementor-divider-separator:after{content:none}.elementor-widget-divider--element-align-right .elementor-divider__element{margin-right:0}.elementor-widget-divider--element-align-start .elementor-divider .elementor-divider-separator>.elementor-divider__svg:first-of-type{flex-grow:0;flex-shrink:100}.elementor-widget-divider--element-align-start .elementor-divider-separator:before{content:none}.elementor-widget-divider--element-align-start .elementor-divider__element{margin-inline-start:0}.elementor-widget-divider--element-align-end .elementor-divider .elementor-divider-separator>.elementor-divider__svg:last-of-type{flex-grow:0;flex-shrink:100}.elementor-widget-divider--element-align-end .elementor-divider-separator:after{content:none}.elementor-widget-divider--element-align-end .elementor-divider__element{margin-inline-end:0}.elementor-widget-divider:not(.elementor-widget-divider--view-line_text):not(.elementor-widget-divider--view-line_icon) .elementor-divider-separator{border-block-start:var(--divider-border-width) var(--divider-border-style) var(--divider-color)}.elementor-widget-divider--separator-type-pattern{--divider-border-style:none}.elementor-widget-divider--separator-type-pattern.elementor-widget-divider--view-line .elementor-divider-separator,.elementor-widget-divider--separator-type-pattern:not(.elementor-widget-divider--view-line) .elementor-divider-separator:after,.elementor-widget-divider--separator-type-pattern:not(.elementor-widget-divider--view-line) .elementor-divider-separator:before,.elementor-widget-divider--separator-type-pattern:not([class*=elementor-widget-divider--view]) .elementor-divider-separator{width:100%;min-height:var(--divider-pattern-height);-webkit-mask-size:var(--divider-pattern-size) 100%;mask-size:var(--divider-pattern-size) 100%;-webkit-mask-repeat:var(--divider-pattern-repeat);mask-repeat:var(--divider-pattern-repeat);background-color:var(--divider-color);-webkit-mask-image:var(--divider-pattern-url);mask-image:var(--divider-pattern-url)}.elementor-widget-divider--no-spacing{--divider-pattern-size:auto}.elementor-widget-divider--bg-round{--divider-pattern-repeat:round}.rtl .elementor-widget-divider .elementor-divider__text{direction:rtl}.e-con-inner>.elementor-widget-divider,.e-con>.elementor-widget-divider{width:var(--container-widget-width,100%);--flex-grow:var(--container-widget-flex-grow)} See what else is in store Find more garden inspiration
The Life-Force Garden
0 comment
The Life-Force Garden Designed by Kim O’Brien, awarded Gold Hollow dahlia stems and the movement of water through them provides inspiration for the life-force garden design, drawing parallels between plant systems and human blood vessels and tissues. The design is layered on four overlapping Fibonacci spirals, found abundantly throughout the human body and in nature.  Here the four spirals represent plants and nature; mind; body; spirit and the deep connections between them. The garden features a hexagonal sculpture and circular pond reminiscent of cell structure and blood vessels; a spirit sculpture; a life-force water feature; an area to contemplate and refresh; and considered structural planting punctuated by dahlias and other late summer flowers.  The pond is adorned with floating cut dahlias, renewed daily like cells of the body while the spirit sculpture has turned away from the garden signifying the moment it will move to the next realm.   A short and challenging ‘mindfulness path’ actively slows the visitor with a gentle obstacle of driftwood ‘ribs’ to step over; allowing a worry to leave with each step and rapidly narrowing to accentuate the change of pace and the sudden ‘stop’.  The senses are stimulated by fragrant planting to touch and increase well-being.  The short path ends with a rustic tree seat, purposefully low to immerse the visitor into an almost ground-level depth of experience for contemplation near the sound of the water feature, or to use as a step up for an elevated overview of the space.  The circular patio seating area overlooks trees, shrubs and flowers and has a pleasing view of the life-force water-feature nestled amid considered planting.  It also houses seating which makes the garden a useable, practical space allowing the mind to contemplate, unwind and refresh. Designed with the ecosystem in mind, the garden features planting for pollinators; an insect hotel; a bee bath; a hedgehog haven; a shelter for small mammals and a solar-powered, self-contained water feature.Trees, features, sculptures and statement plants are placed according to the focal points generated by the Fibonacci spirals.  The tapestry of planting is laid in swathes that follow the natural flow of the spirals around the space inviting the mind to meander and find its connection to the life-force garden.  With thanks to /*! elementor - v3.19.0 - 07-02-2024 */ .elementor-column .elementor-spacer-inner{height:var(--spacer-size)}.e-con{--container-widget-width:100%}.e-con-inner>.elementor-widget-spacer,.e-con>.elementor-widget-spacer{width:var(--container-widget-width,var(--spacer-size));--align-self:var(--container-widget-align-self,initial);--flex-shrink:0}.e-con-inner>.elementor-widget-spacer>.elementor-widget-container,.e-con>.elementor-widget-spacer>.elementor-widget-container{height:100%;width:100%}.e-con-inner>.elementor-widget-spacer>.elementor-widget-container>.elementor-spacer,.e-con>.elementor-widget-spacer>.elementor-widget-container>.elementor-spacer{height:100%}.e-con-inner>.elementor-widget-spacer>.elementor-widget-container>.elementor-spacer>.elementor-spacer-inner,.e-con>.elementor-widget-spacer>.elementor-widget-container>.elementor-spacer>.elementor-spacer-inner{height:var(--container-widget-height,var(--spacer-size))}.e-con-inner>.elementor-widget-spacer.elementor-widget-empty,.e-con>.elementor-widget-spacer.elementor-widget-empty{position:relative;min-height:22px;min-width:22px}.e-con-inner>.elementor-widget-spacer.elementor-widget-empty .elementor-widget-empty-icon,.e-con>.elementor-widget-spacer.elementor-widget-empty .elementor-widget-empty-icon{position:absolute;top:0;bottom:0;left:0;right:0;margin:auto;padding:0;width:22px;height:22px} See what else is in store Find more garden inspiration

Free Thinking

Free Thinking Designed by Rachel Sporborg, Rachel Sporborg DesignAwarded Best Beautiful Border and Platinum ‘FreeThinking’ creates a dynamic space with contrasting textures and  varying intensity of colour. Modern life can mean that we are bound by many constricts and the  garden offers a way to escape and relax. The design reflects this idea  with a juxtaposition of rigidity in the hard landscaping and movement in the planting.Drawing the eye in, contrasting metal work frames the planting, including an Euonymus alatus and grasses with different heights. A central water feature allows for physical and contemplative reflection.Inspired by David Tremlett’s ‘Drawing for Free Thinking’, this border has  decisive rectilinear outlines, layered with harmonising shades. Sticklebacks and Strawberries

Sticklebacks and Strawberries Designed by Alyssia Maisonpierre, Stonehouse Garden Design, awarded Platinum Alyssia’s childhood memories are filled with trips down to the local woods to explore and escape. Imagination created a vast wilderness full of wonder, small streams became wide rivers to conquer, sometime unsuccessfully. The creatures within Sticklebacks became tiny piranhas. A whole new world was discovered in that woodland and she would escape there often. She still enjoys escaping to that place, but has since gained an appreciation for foraging. Her exploring now leads to nuts, berries and herbs. Sticklebacks and Strawberries is a combination of her childhood memories and her present interest in agraforestry and foraging.
