Exhibitor spotlight - The Norfolk Olive Tree Company
When you think of Norfolk, what do you think of? Mustard? Turnips?
Possibly....but not olives!
Husband and wife duo Paul and Antonia Smith, of the Norfolk Olive Tree Company, have been importing Olive Trees for two years now. Antonia who loves to cook and spent her twenties working in French restaurants has been curing/preserving and smoking Arbequina Olives.
The Arbequina Olive from Catalonia is small and nutty, as the tree flowers and fruits early in the season it has longer on the branch to ripen and is perfect for the UK.
Antonia and Paul sell olive trees from their Norwich shop and had not originally considered curing them but a customer of theirs passed on a recipe from their great grand father.
Initially Antonia produces enough to hand outs as tasters but hopes to go on to bigger production.
Stop by and see them on stand FM61 in the BBC Gardeners' World Live Floral Marquee, where,as part of the anniversary celebrations, they'll be displaying a 50 year old olive tree and you can have your first taste of Norfolk Olives!
