The bliss point - where food meets gardening
At a show which brings together the very best in both gardening and food, it’s time (or thyme?!) to make way for the herbs!
At BBC Gardeners’ World Live this year we have more of a range than ever, from top exhibitors in our Floral Marquee and Plant Village. Hooksgreen Herbs and The Culinary Herb Company both offer a wide range of herb plants for cooks and gardeners alike.
For something a bit more exotic, Battlebridge Mills will have a range of peppers to spice up your life! W Robinsons & Son and Pennard Plants both offer a comprehensive range of herb, and vegetable, seeds for visitors to buy including heritage and less-common varieties.
New exhibitors to the Floral Marquee this year include The Norfolk Olive Company with a range of olive trees of all sizes – whilst we can't deny that they're not herbs, we feel sure they're of interest to our more culinary orientated visitors. Beech Tree Farm Nursery offer a range of beautifully scented lavender plants.
In the BBC Good Food Show there are a wide range of stands offering everything from ground spices to ready prepared meals and products containing every type of herb you can imagine.
One of our favourite herb-related facts about the Show this year is that the herd of donkeys at the Birmingham Donkey Sanctuary, who visitors can meet at BBC Gardeners’ World Live for the second year on the trot (please excuse the almost unforgivable pun) this year, have been taking part in a trial to find out which herbs stimulate the donkeys and enrich their lives. Small patches of herbs were scattered around and a watch kept, seeing which was frequented most. Top of the list for the Birmingham donkeys were rosemary, thyme, basil and coriander!
Meet the donkeys and pick up the herbs to enrich your own life at BBC Gardeners’ World Live and the BBC Good Food Show, 15 – 18 June 2017 at Birmingham’s NEC. If you've not yet booked, there's no thyme like the present!
