Gloria Hunniford

See Gloria Hunniford at the Show on Saturday 15 & Sunday 16 June appearing in the BBC Gardeners' World Live Theatre sponsored by Inspired Villages, in free Inspired Living sessions.

Gloria will discuss how gardening in retirement should be about doing the things you enjoy at a level that you can enjoy them. She will talk about her own love of gardening and how it has evolved over the years and focus on smaller more manageable gardens, such as container gardens and how they can still bring you joy.

She will explore the sociable side of gardening, whether it’s a glass of wine with friends or working together in places like Inspired, to create beautiful spaces for everyone to enjoy and will share what other ways Inspired are doing to bring health and wellness of every form into their villages throughout the UK.
These session are free of charge but should be booked in advance when booking your tickets.

As one of Britain's best known TV and radio personalities, Gloria Hunniford requires little introduction. From chat show and current affairs host to presenter of lifestyle and consumer programmes, Gloria is one of the few broadcasters who can genuinely claim to embrace the spectrum of popular culture. Her elusive ability to communicate with people from all walks and backgrounds has earned her a rare iconic status in the hearts and minds of the British public, recently making her the subject of Piers Morgan's Life Stories for ITV. But it was with her moving and unsentimental account of her daughter's battle with cancer — in the best-selling books Next To You and Always With You — that she sealed her reputation as one of the nation's most respected writers and commentators. Her third book Glorious Grandparenting: Having the Time of Your Life with Your Grandchildren is a wonderful celebration of what it is to be a grandparent today.

A prolific and talented broadcaster, Gloria has long championed the role of the solo female presenter. In 1982 she became the first woman to have her own daily radio show on BBC Radio 2, which she presented continuously for 13 years — and she was one of the first female broadcasters to host her own chat show with the highly successful, Sunday, Sunday. Amongst Gloria's most recent presenting credits are the consumer affairs series Rip-Off Britain (including spin-off shows Rip-Off Britain: Food and Rip-Off Britain: Holidays) as well as Food: Truth Or Scare for BBC1. She has also presented Doorstep Crime 999 and holiday home swap series Home Away From Home for BBC1. Gloria has been a regular news reviewer for ITV's This Morning, reporter for The One Show and is a regular panellist on Loose Women for ITV. In January 2017 Gloria was nominated for a Broadcast Award in the Best Daytime Programme category for her Loose Women Special: Sir Cliff Richard, Out of the Shadows. In June 2017 she celebrated 70 years of showbusiness in a special ‘This Is Your Life’ edition of Loose Women, hosted by Eamonn Holmes.

Gloria has also previously presented Cash In The Attic / Cash In The Celebrity Attic for BBC1/BBC2, Angels for Sky Real Lives, co-hosted 3@Three for ITV, Castle In The Country for BBC2 and has been a regular guest on The Alan Titchmarsh Show for ITV and Dictionary Corner guest on Channel 4's Countdown. Gloria has won many prestigious awards during her career including TV Personality of the Year, Radio Personality of the Year and Best Dressed Female. She is patron of a number of charities and dedicates much time to the causes she supports. Gloria was President of the Television and Radio Industries Club 1999-2000 and received the Lifetime Achievement Award in 2001.

Over sixty years ago in July 1953, a young Gloria came face to face with the newly crowned Queen Elizabeth II along a small country road outside Lisburn. As part of the Diamond Jubilee celebrations in 2012, Gloria presented The Queen and Me for BBC NI, in which she set out to discover just why the Queen was there, where she went and who she met. Interweaving the memories of those who were there with remarkable vintage film, a story unfolded of a magical and intimate Royal visit to Northern Ireland unlike any other.

This was not to be Gloria's only encounter with Her Majesty The Queen. Indeed in June 2017, Gloria was awarded an OBE for services to cancer charities through breast screening services and cancer support, in the Queen's Birthday Honours.

Gloria has fronted numerous successful promotional campaigns and is in great demand for corporate work. She is also a popular and enchanting guest of daytime shows, having made countless appearances across the channels.

Gloria's long-awaited autobiography ‘My Life’ is published by John Blake Books, October 2017.
