  • Candide is also launching their new Places functionality at the event alongside a first-of-its-kind interactive tour of a public garden
  • The Bee Inspired border can be found at stand BB21

Candide, the UK’s newest gardening community, have launched their ‘Win the Border’ competition for BBC Gardeners’ World Live. Visitors need to post their photos of the annual event  in Candide’s app for the chance to win the full border display of bee-friendly perennials which is sponsored by Ball Colegrave. The winner of the best photo, as selected by the team, will walk away with garden-ready plants set to transform their borders and increase pollinators in their garden.

Candide will also be showcasing their newly launched Places functionality. Places is a unique interactive map of the UK’s public gardens and garden centres, providing users with information ranging from opening times and descriptions to directions and location images wherever they are in the country. This database of gardens and centres is believed to be an gardening app world-first, offering unmatched access to garden information and places of interest in one platform.

The event will also see the unveiling of what is thought to be the first-of-its-kind interactive tour with Hestercombe Gardens, near Taunton, Somerset. Working in collaboration with Hestercombe Chief Executive Philip White, MBE, and Head Gardener, Claire Greenslade, Candide have developed a truly unique experience allowing visitors to tour the gardens using their app. Led by Philip and Claire, the virtual tour takes visitors through the grounds with geo-tagged information throughout the landscape and formal gardens, telling the story of Hestercombe and the creative vision of Coplestone Bampfylde, the Portman Family, Edwin Lutyens and Gertryde Jekyll.

This immersive experience is a feast for garden and history lovers alike; married with Candide’s plant knowledge base and community, a visitor can tag plants along the tour and be inspired to discover more interesting Places or grow new and different plants. The tours have a stop/start functionality, supported by an interactive map allowing users to pick up the tour at their own pace and without the need for a personal guide, and have been carefully designed to complement being in the beautiful gardens and not distract from their enjoyment. That way everyone who visits Hestercombe gets a true and complete experience, at their own pace, as if in the company of Philip and Claire.

Candide’s team of expert horticulturalists will be on hand at the event, sharing their knowledge and giving personalised advice about all things gardening and flowers from their border garden and tent which can be found at stand BB21.

Commenting on their first time participation at BBC Gardeners’ Worlds Live, Candide’s CEO, Andrew Philbrick, said:

“We are really excited to debut our bee-Inspired border garden here at BBC Gardeners World Live, and we are looking forward to seeing the wonderful images visitors will share from the event on our app. Our team is on hand to demonstrate how our app works, and how we are connecting gardeners of all levels and experience with each other to share the joy that gardening brings. Our app is built by gardeners for gardeners and there is something for everyone in it, be they amateur gardeners, horticulturists, growers, families - all are welcome in our growing community.”
