Lucy was raised at her parents’ market garden in Essex, before venturing to further her horticultural education at Writtle and Wye colleges.

With an Honours Degree in plant sciences she then worked at the Royal Horticultural Society Garden (RHS) Wisley. After six years she left to pursue a career as a garden writer – first, for four years at Amateur Gardening magazine and then for six years as Editor of Grow Your Own magazine. She is now Head Gardener at East Donyland Hall which is home to a Victorian walled kitchen garden. Lucy has contributed to and written various gardening books (including the RHS Step-by-Step Veg Patch). She also regularly blogs about gardening for The Guardian, lectures at RHS Garden Hyde Hall and frequently guests with Ken Crowther on the weekly gardening slot at BBC Essex radio.
