The Changing Face of Gardening


This brand new feature celebrates the vast changes seen over the past 50 years offering visitors a snapshot of history and glimpses of favourite plants, techniques and accessories as they have changed over time.

Curated by expert gardener and horticulturalist David Hurrion browse the different zones to learn about topics including:

  • A potted history of container gardening
  • Our changing attitudes to wildlife
  • The garden shed – 50 years on
  • The grow your own revolution
  • A family tree of Gardeners’ World
Discover the ten plants nominated by the current Gardeners’ World presenters for the Golden Jubilee Award. The winner, voted for by the general public, will be crowned on air on BBC Two, Friday 16 June. 
Sitting at the heart of the feature, The Potting Shed stage will be running a packed schedule of talks and demos led by magazine editors Lucy Hall and Kevin Smith and featuring very special guests.

Mini Masterclasses with BBC Gardeners' World Magazine associate editor David Hurrion

David Hurrion leads these hands on demos within The Changing Face of Gardening feature, running through out the day. The mini masterclasses cover:

  • Potting up plants
  • Taking cuttings
  • Sowing seeds
  • Then and now techniques

Sessions will take place at 10.30am; 11.30am; 12.30pm; 2pm; 3pm and 4pm daily. Please check the blackboard on the day for further details.
