The Stroke Association Legacy Garden

BRONZE AWARD, designed by Alex Daley and Phil Pooley, Stroke Association

BRONZE AWARD, designed by Alex Daley and Phil Pooley, Stroke Association

The garden represents the journey of stroke survivors, that begins on the path of rebuilding lives after finding themselves in a barren, rocky and unforgiving place, accentuated by the widely-spaced pavers and spiky fauna. The design features hazards on the path, undulating ground throughout and the walls are not uniform in their construction, communicating what it must be like for many stroke survivors. With the support of the Stroke Association and especially from its legacy supporters, the path gradually becomes softer, with an ever-increasing abundance of life, before reaching its crescendo in the form of an elevated, level and social area that looks back across their recovery journey.
