BBC Gardeners' World Live Young Landscapers Award 2019

BBC Gardeners' World Live Young Landscapers Award 2019

young landscapers award logoFor the second year, the Show will feature the Young Landscapers Award, supported by the Association of Professional Landscapers (APL) and sponsored by Marshalls.

In this tough competition, four of the very best young landscapers in the country, all aged under 28, form two teams, to display their high calibre skills. Designed to champion skills amongst young people and nurture emerging talent, the competition sees the contenders working in pairs to build two challenging Show Gardens packed with an array of landscaping elements.

Both Show Gardens will be assessed on Wednesday 12 June by the BBC Gardeners’ World Live Show Garden Assessment Panel plus two dedicated judges from the WorldSkills Assessment Panel.

Visitors to the Show will see the results of the incredibly talented young landscapers, and a garden-load of inspiration from their Show Gardens. Don't miss it for great ideas for projects to try in your own garden.

We're pleased to announce that the young landscapers taking part in the competition are:

Team A

Team B

Team B

Reece McKay, College of Agriculture, Food and Rural Enterprise (CAFRE), and Brian Hughes, College of Agriculture, Food and Rural Enterprise (CAFRE)

You may recognise these names as they’re the four landscapers taking top spots at the WorldSkills UK Finals in November. Matthew Wood was crowned champion in landscaping with the Gold award. Meanwhile fellow apprentice Sam Gordon, from The Gardenmakers in Warwickshire, took home the Silver, in a six-person national final, which was held at WorldSkills UK Live at the NEC Birmingham. Sam took Silver, Reece took Bronze, and Brian was awarded Highly Commended.
