The Modern Medicinal Wildlife Border

Designed by: Esther Cooper-Wood, Laura Clark, Liz Colebrook and Alex from The Poetry Pharmacy Physic Garden
Inspired by Medieval ‘physic’ gardens where plants were cultivated by apothecaries for medicinal use, this Beautiful Border updates the concept for the 21st century. This design shows how wild flowers have always been used to benefit wild life and human life and how wild life and human life are connected.
The design follows the geometric structure favoured by Medieval gardeners but has a wilder, softer planting scheme to encourage the pollinators and natural predators we so desperately need today. The structure allows gardeners to access every part of the planting with ease and a small water feature offers a crucial haven for amphibians and insects.
