A Haven For All

“This design is about sharing our garden space with the other native animals. I seek to demonstrate that we can create a beautiful, decorative place to enjoy ourselves, whilst also providing valuable resources for a wide range of animals.

The main feature is the Arbour which provides a comfortable, sheltered resting spot from which to view the garden (and its other visitors), modified to also incorporate accommodation for birds, hedgehogs, toads, newts, ladybirds, bees, butterflies, beetles et cetera!

The planting has been carefully considered to include a blend of ornamental and native species, which provide shelter or food such as nectar, seeds, berries and leaves. The colour scheme is based on 2 deep, rich varieties of a famously pollinator-friendly plant; the Buddleia, combined with complementary splashes of bright green and peachy orange, and flowers are mostly either conical spikes or daisy shaped.”

Jemma Elcock

The theme of 2024 is ‘Share my Space.’ The theme is all about harnessing the potential of small garden spaces and using them as catalysts for building a sense of community through gardening. Our gardens, no matter how big or small, are spaces we can come together, learn from one another and cultivate a shared green oasis.
