School Wheelbarrow Competition

The School Wheelbarrow competition at BBC Gardeners’ World Live is an exceptionally popular annual feature at the show. To celebrate the arrival of the Commonwealth Games to Birmingham, this year’s School Wheelbarrow Competition theme is Commonwealth Countries in a Barrow!

Find out more about the competition here or download our application form.

We are asking schools to plant up a barrow to represent one of the Commonwealth Countries!

Choose one country and draw inspiration from the local flora and fauna, garden styles, national heritage, cuisine and culture to plant a wheelbarrow bursting with colour and creativity. Schools are particularly encouraged to take a lead from the edibles of their chosen country.

Children, from infant up to secondary level can show off their creative flair, working as a team, with the satisfaction of seeing their final creations on display at the show, enjoyed by tens of thousands of visitors.

This competition is open to schools in the Midlands only. Entry is free!

We can’t wait to see your potted tributes to the Commonwealth Countries!
